Joe is a Commercial/Investment Real Estate Broker, having been first licensed in 1971. His Real Estate career has included owning his own appraisal firm, building a brokerage operation from the ground up for a local financial institution into a multi-office company of over 80 agents and – beginning in 1969 right up to 2023 - rehabbing 50+/- properties in and around Dayton. Since leaving the appraisal field in 1982, Joe has sold or leased land and improved properties of all types including 42 food service properties totaling over $9,000,000. He served as an adjunct instructor at Sinclair Community College from 1979 until 2019, the last 25 years he was been Sinclair’s instructor of “Intro to Real Estate Investment” that students preparing to graduate with a degree in Real Estate take in their last year.
Joe began the “partial retirement” phase of his career in 2008 with the purchase of a home/rehab project on La Belle Street in the St. Anne’s Hill Historic Neighborhood of Dayton. His neighborhood involvement has included serving as a Board member, co-chairing the parks/ greenway committee and co-founding The 1600 Group, LLC. Joe helped motivate 30 neighbors to invest several thousand dollars each in order to acquire the then derelict “American Saloon” building. After completing the purchase, Joe’s responsibilities to the LLC included organizing and overseeing the renovation of the exterior of the building. The following year, Joe also co-founded the Fifth Street Brew Pub at that same location and managed the total renovation of the building from a vacant shell to an operating Pub in less than 1 year. Joe has also increased his Real Estate Brokerage activities in the neighborhood, having helped clients buy or sell over 50 neighborhood properties totaling over $4,000,000.
